Time passes with little regard of human perspective. At times painfully slow and often it slips past more swiftly than we’d like. Sammie Young is a testimony to the changing of life’s many seasons. As life deals it’s harsh blows, she stands strong. Now, with two of her five children left at home, change whizzes toward her at the speed of light. Frequently down, but never beaten, Sammie steps out in faith to face the new and exciting seasons awaiting her family.

"Seasons of a Life " by D.H. Barbara is a book that I would recommend if you want a compelling rag to riches kind of story.I really liked the storyline and the characters but it is one that I wouldn't really consider to be in the Christian genre, yes it is a clean read and the characters go to church and sing worship songs and are christians ( most are, just not the secondary characters).
I really liked the ending and I am going to add the second book in this series to my to be read pile.
There are a couple of scenes that just seem to be wrong to me such as her two sons are 17 and 18 and she had to have "babysitters" when she left them when she went on a date and the one that really surprised me was when she gave them a hug and a kiss when they were going into Sunday School.
The characters both had to learn to leave the past in the past and they both had to learn forgiveness as well as Sammie's daughter Sunny.
I am giving "Seasons of a Life" by D.H. Barbara three stars!
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

Seasons Of A Life Book One in the Lakeville Series Revised Edition DH Barbara 9781479302765 Books Reviews
I think D.H. Barbara's strength is bringing to life real people that you'll continue to care about long after you finish the book. Fortunately for us, there are other Lakeville books in print and she's still writing!
I got the book free for the , so can't complain. It was a quick read, perhaps a fun read. It had elements of chick lit, which no one else has mentioned. The wording was a little frivolous, and that is perhaps why there was a bit of swearing. I think the author wanted to make a point about redemption and maybe succeeded, especially for a first time author. I would probably recommend it to the under-fifty crowd.
Book is light and enjoyable but the fact that she has 2 boys aged 17 and 18 and she has to drive them everywhere and pick them up seemed unrealistic. Even at night when she was not using the car. Also once when she would be late getting home she sent them to her adult friends house. Sort of old for a babysitter especially for boys that are portrayed as Christians.
There are a small handful of books that I read in a matter of days, this just got added to that list. The characters in this book feel like real people, people I know and would spend time with. When I wasn't reading the book, I couldn't wait to find a moment to get back to it and learn how events unfolded. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an escape to a nearby town.
Enjoyed this book!! The characters began to feel like family, and you wanted the best for them. I read a lot, and many authors don't have the ability to create characters that you can identify with. Characters that you think about and remember days later and for a second, wonder about them. Then you remember, wait, that was fiction. That is the way I felt about the characters in Seasons of a Life. Mrs. Barbara has a winner in this one.
This is a captivating story. The characters are memorable and have Christian values.
I declined to give it five stars, though, because as someone else mentioned, the 17 and 18 year olds in the book seemed to need baby sitters. Not very realistic, in my opinion.
Also, without giving too much away, there is an event in the last portion of the book, that struck me as unbelievable. My husband, like one of the main characters, is also a Vietnam vet. While not impossible for this event to occur, I know the approximate age bracket of the two main characters, and it does not seem realistic. Even if it was possible, somehow I just did not like it. I think the story worked fine without adding in this event.
However, if you enjoy a sweet, clean romance, this book is for you.
This novel centers around widow Sammie Young, who struggles with letting go of the past and embracing the future. Meeting Robert Revell changes her life. Growing love is always fun to explore. The book drew me in and held my interest as I followed her journey through various seasons of her life. Her family dynamics and her relationships offer plenty of drama and tension. Her teen sons, whom she homeschools, seem too good to be true but are still believable. I enjoyed the story, but the head hopping, even within a paragraph, sometimes made it difficult to know who was speaking or acting. More editing would help this novel really shine. I also think the author could go deeper emotionally with the characters. Because the book covered so much time, it sometimes seemed a bit rushed rather than developing a scene more. This is the first of a series set in Lakeville. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
